The Ascension Cathedral, also known as the Zenkov Cathedral, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was built between 1904 and 1907 by the architect Andrei Zenkov, and is one of the few buildings in Almaty that survived the 1911 earthquake.
The cathedral is built in a traditional Russian Orthodox style, with five golden domes and intricate decoration. It is made entirely of wood, with no nails or metal fastenings, using an ancient technique called "interlocking log construction". This technique involves cutting the logs in a way that allows them to fit tightly together without the need for nails or screws.

The cathedral has been used for various purposes over the years, including as a museum, a cinema, and a concert hall. In 1995, it was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church and underwent extensive renovations. Today, it is once again used as a functioning church and is a popular tourist attraction in Almaty.
