Buddhist Church of Oakland is a Jodo Shinshu Temple with over 100 years of history. It extends the warmest welcome to you, whether you are a first-time visitor or a long-time member of this church. Your interest in our temple is sincerely appreciated and it wishes to make you feel comfortable attending our Sunday services, religious or cultural events, or participating in one of several church groups. | |
The Buddhist Church of Oakland services are conducted by Rev. Harry Gyokyo Bridge who was appointed as our minister in January 2009 after serving for 2 years at the Buddhist Church of Lodi. The regular Sunday program begins with a Family Dharma Service at 10:00 a.m. which is geared towards the children and their parents. This service includes incense offering, chanting, singing, and a brief Dharma talk. On the first Sunday of each month we hold a Shotsuki Hoyo (Monthly Memorial Service) at 10:30 a.m. following our regular Family Dharma Service. Dharma School is held after the Family Dharma Service and offers classes for children from preschool through high school. Our Superintendent, Maya Lawrence, is more than happy to discuss these enrichment classes with you - whether you are interested in becoming a Dharma School teacher or enrolling your child in Sunday School. |
