But Thap Temple is renowned for its beautiful and well-preserved architecture, making it one of the most important historical sites in northern Vietnam. The temple was originally built during the La½ Dynasty in the 13th century and has undergone various renovations and expansions over time. The temple complex features several structures, with the most prominent being the But Thap Pagoda, which gives the temple its name. The pagoda is aseven-story tower that stands 36 meters tall and is considered one of the tallest ancient pagodas in Vietnam. Each floor of the pagodahas its own unique design and is adorned with intricate carvings and decorations. The architectural style of Chua But Thap showcases ablend of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indian influences. The pagoda's exterior exhibits elements of traditional Vietnamese architecture, while the interior displays Buddhist motifs and sculptures influenced by Indian and Chinese art. Within the temple complex, there are also other structures such as prayer halls, courtyards, and smaller pagodas. These structures house a variety of Buddhist statues, sculptures, and artifacts, including valuable ancient relics. But Thap Temple is not only a popular tourist destination but also a place of worship and pilgrimage for Buddhists. It attracts visitors who are interested in exploring Vietnam's rich cultural and religious heritage, as well as those seeking a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
