| The tower stands 50 feet tall and is made of Italian Carrara marble. It features a set of 12 chimes that play a melody every quarter-hour, as well as a large clock face on each side of the tower. In addition to its timekeeping function, the chimes tower has also been used for other purposes throughout its history. During World War II, the tower was used as a lookout post by the U.S. Coast Guard. In the 1980s, the tower was used as a broadcasting station for a local radio station. Today, the Catalina Chimes Tower is a popular tourist attraction, with visitors coming to see the historic tower and hear the chimes play. The tower is located in Wrigley Memorial and Botanic Garden, which features a variety of plants native to the island. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the garden and enjoy the views of Avalon and the surrounding Pacific Ocean. | |
