| The area was originally inhabited by the Patwin Native American tribe before European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century. The city was founded in 1850 as a trading post and was incorporated in 1868. Colusa is home to several historic sites, including the Colusa Carnegie Library, which was built in 1905 and is now used as a museum, and the Colusa County Courthouse, which was built in 1861 and is still in use today. The city also hosts several annual events, such as the Colusa County Fair, which features livestock exhibits, agricultural displays, and carnival rides, and the Colusa Farm Show, which showcases the latest in agricultural technology and equipment.
