Shasta County is a county located in the northern part of California. It is part of the Sacramento Valley region and is bordered by the Cascade Range to the north and the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east. The county seat of Shasta County is Redding, which is the largest city in the county and serves as its primary economic and cultural center. Its population was 182,155 in 2020.

Nestled next to Clear Creek, French Gulch Park is at the end of town. The park is a day use area. You may picnic, play horseshoes, or stop and put your feet in the creek. You might even find a spec of gold! Dogs are welcome; just remember to bring their leash. French Gulch is a historic mining town located 12 miles west of Redding, California on State Route 299.

Located in the western section of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area where three creeks merge into one, Tower House Historic District is the park’s signature historic site. The town started as a California Gold Rush camp. The town is named after Levi Tower, who built the Tower House Hotel and helped establish the town.
