Golubac Fortress is a stunning medieval fortress located on the right bank of the Danube River near the town of Golubac in eastern Serbia. It is one of the most well-preserved and picturesque fortresses in the country, sitting at the entrance to the Iron Gates, a gorge that forms a natural border between Serbia and Romania.
- Architecture: The fortress has a striking design, with 10 towers (some over 20 meters tall) connected by high walls that follow the natural contours of the cliff. These towers were built in different styles over time, reflecting the various periods of construction.

- Medieval Origins: Built in the 14th century, Golubac Fortress has witnessed numerous battles and changes in power, having been controlled by Serbs, Hungarians, Ottomans, and Austrians throughout its history.

- Conflicts: The fortress was the site of numerous conflicts between the Kingdom of Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Serbia. It was heavily fortified and adapted over the centuries as military technologies advanced.

The fortress is associated with several local legends, one of which suggests that a young girl named Golubana, who rejected the advances of a Turkish pasha, was tied to one of the towers to perish. This romantic legend is said to have given the fortress its name.
