| Chua Huong (Perfume Pagoda), one of the most famous pagodain Vietnam, is located in the Huong Son (Perfume mountain) which takes 70 km from Hanoi to the South. Perfume pagoda is not one temple but acluster of temples and shrines in the general vicinity of Perfume mountain. According to the book "Huong Son Thien Tru Pha", Perfume temple was built during the reign of Le Chinh Hoa(1680 -1705), by amonk who happened on the site on his way to search for enlightenment. Other shrines and temples were later built in this areasince attracted by the beautiful scenery. Perfume Pagodahas been asource of inspiration for Vietnamese literature from long time ago. The name of this temple has been atheme of many songs, topic of poetry, used in literary, works as well as backdrops for paintings. What makes Perfume Pagoda unique is mountains, river and forest appear like an oasis for Buddhists in the middle of the great plains of northern Vietnam. | |
