It is situated in the western part of New York State, near the Canadian border. It is located on the southern bank of the Niagara River, directly across from the Canadian city of Niagara Falls, Ontario. Tthe city had a total population of 48,671 in 2020.

Ransomville is a hamlet and census-designated place located in the Town of Porter in Niagara County, New York. The population was 1,316 at the 2020 census. Portions of the hamlet are also in Town of Wilson and Town of Cambria. Ransomville is north of the City of Niagara Falls and is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.
