Nyika National Park, located in northern Malawi, is the country's largest national park and one of Africa's most unique landscapes. Spanning over 3,200 square kilometers, the park sits atop the Nyika Plateau, a high-altitude grassland and montane ecosystem. Its name, "Nyika," translates to "where the water comes from," and the park's diverse ecosystems serve as crucial watersheds for the region.
The park’s rolling hills, high-altitude grasslands, and evergreen forests are teeming with a remarkable range of flora and fauna. Nyika is known for its wildflower blooms, with an especially stunning display of orchids during the rainy season. This biodiverse park is home to a variety of wildlife, including large herds of zebras, antelopes, and the iconic roan antelope, which is a rare sight elsewhere in Africa. Birdwatching is exceptional here, with over 400 bird species, including the Denham’s bustard and wattled crane.
