The Tisey-Estanzuela natural reserve is situated approximately 10 kilometers south of the city of Esteli and about 140 kilometers north of Managua in northern Nicaragua. Rated as one of the protected areas of Nicaragua due to its natural beauty and biodiversity, the reserve is a highly recommended tourist destination. El Salto, the region’s most famous swimming hole, is located within the Tisey-Estanzuela natural reserve. A 15 meter high waterfall plunges into a cold-water pool surrounded by lush and colorful indigenous flora. Swimming behind the waterfall is an experience that gives visitors a whole new perspective of the beauty of nature. The reserve has a rustic eco-lodge as well as a network of hiking and horse-back trails.
