Tulum is an archaeological site located in the state of Quintana Roo on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It is situated about 130 km (81 miles) south of Cancun and 64 km (40 miles) south of Playa del Carmen. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya people and served as a major trading port for the region. The site is known for its stunning coastal location and well-preserved architecture.
The Tulum archaeological site is home to a variety of structures including a central fortress, a temple dedicated to the Descending God, and a palace complex. The site is surrounded by a 784-meter-long (858-yard-long) wall that served as a defensive barrier against possible invasions. Visitors to Tulum can also explore a number of underground cenotes, which are natural sinkholes filled with freshwater that the Maya used for drinking water and as a source of food.

The Tulum archaeological site is open to visitors year-round and can be reached by car, bus, or taxi from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or other nearby cities. It is recommended that visitors arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds and heat of the day. Guided tours are available and can provide visitors with in-depth information about the history and culture of the Maya people.
