Platina is situated along California State Route 36, nestled in the mountainous and forested terrain of Northern California. It lies approximately 40 miles west of Redding, the largest nearby city.
The Saint Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina, California, is a notable Orthodox Christian monastic community. The monastery is part of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), under the Orthodox Christian tradition. It was established in honor of Saint Herman of Alaska, one of the first Orthodox Christian missionaries in North America.
