The Great Point Lighthouse is located within the Coskata Coatue Wildlife Sanctuary, at the northernmost point of Nantucket Island. The lighthouse is about seven miles from Wauwinet, along sandy paths that stretch across a narrow strip of beach where the Atlantic Current and the Nantucket Strait meet. Great Point is a fantastic area for naturalists and birdwatchers.
The Sconset Bluff Walk is a public walking trail approximately 2 miles (round trip) long, running through a section of Sconset Bluff, behind private estates, along the east coast of Nantucket. It offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and sandbars, but there is no dedicated parking for this trail. The dirt path is narrow and rough in some sections.
The Sankaty Head Lighthouse is located on Nantucket Island. Built in 1850, it was automated in 1965 and is still operational. This approximately 21-meter-tall brick and granite structure sits atop a cliff at the end of what is now Baxter Road in Siasconset, flashing a white light every 7.5 seconds. It was one of the first lighthouses in the United States to be equipped with a Fresnel lens.
