The Ruth Bancroft Garden is a public garden located in Walnut Creek, California. It was founded in 1972 by Ruth Bancroft, who was a well-known horticulturist and gardener. The garden is spread over 3.5 acres and features a wide variety of succulent and drought-tolerant plants.
The John Muir National Historic Site was the home of John Muir. Muir was born in Scotland in 1838 and came to the High Sierras in 1868. In 1880 he married Louie Strentzel, the daughter of Dr. John Strentzel, well known California horticulturist. By this time Muir was already renowned as a naturalist and writer. John and Louie Muir lived in a small house at Strentzel's fruit orchard.
Paso Nogal Park is designated as open space and offers a fenced in dog exercise park area (2.5 acres), small picnic areas and approximately 63 acres of scenic hiking trails.
