| The Middle of the World City, known as Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, is a popular tourist site located just north of Quito, Ecuador. It marks the approximate location of the Equator, where visitors can stand with one foot in each hemisphere. The site features a large monument topped with a globe, built to commemorate the 18th-century French Geodesic Mission, which sought to confirm the Earth’s equatorial bulge and accurately map the Equator. | |
