Dien Bien is a province located in the far northwest of Vietnam, sharing borders with Laos and China. It is about 490 kilometers (305 miles) west of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The province covers an area of 9,541 square kilometres and as of 2019 it had a population of 598,856 people.
Tham Bang Cave is extremely large as well as deep, with aheight of 100 meters ad with many small crevices and tunnels. In the middle of the cave, stands abig stone as even and flat as a large table. Hanging down from the cave wall are stalactites in various figures of dragons, lions, phoenixes, elephants.
As parts of Pa Thom commune, the spectacular Pa Thom Cave (Hang Dong Pa Thom) is situated in the West of Dien Bien District, adjoining the border between Vietnam and Laos. Interestingly, the local people usually call the cave as “Tham Nang Lai†which means the Full-of-Fairies Cave in Vietnamese language.
