Duval County is located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Florida. It is situated along the Atlantic coast and encompasses the city of Jacksonville, which is the largest city in Florida by both population and land area. Jacksonville is also the county seat of Duval County. As of July 2022, the population was 1,016,536, up from 864,263 in 2010.

Dutton Island Preserve is included in the Timucuan Trail parks and is Atlantic Beach’s largest park. Located just west of Mayport Road, visitors can capture views of unique wildlife at this park along the Intracoastal Waterway. The tranquil park boasts 9,000 feet of nature trails, 3 miles of hiking trails, a fishing pier and viewing deck of the marsh, kayak launch, picnic areas, camping spots and restrooms.

Howell Park is a passive park that has more than 2,000 feet of trails, a picnic area, and ponds.

Jack Russell Park has two large play areas and is covered with trees and a large picnic pavilion. Other amenties include basketball court, 6 tennis courts, 2 racquetball courts, skateboard ramps, baseball fields and soccer fields. A concession stand is open on weekends.

Johansen Park is a 12-acre passive park off of Seminole Road in the Selva Marina neighborhood. Just blocks from the ocean, Johansen has a canopy of trees and grassy areas for picnicking.
