Manzushir Monastery, located about 50 kilometers south of Ulaanbaatar, on the southern slopes of the Bogd Khan Mountain, is a historic and culturally significant Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Founded in 1733, it was once one of the largest monasteries in the region, home to over 300 monks before it was destroyed during the anti-religious purges of the 1930s.
Manzushir Monastery played a central role in Mongolia's religious and cultural life for over two centuries. It was dedicated to Manjushri (Manzushir in Mongolian), the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, and was part of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery was a major center for Buddhist learning, attracting monks from across the country.

Like many religious institutions in Mongolia, Manzushir Monastery was destroyed during the Communist purges of the 1930s, when the government sought to suppress religious practices. Most of the structures were demolished, and only ruins remain of the original buildings. However, since the 1990s, when Mongolia embraced democracy and freedom of religion, efforts have been made to restore the site. A small museum has been built, and religious ceremonies are held at the temple ruins.
