Niger, officially the Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in West Africa. More than 80% of the country's land area lies within the Sahara Desert. The predominantly Muslim population, numbering 26,342,784 in 2024, is concentrated mainly in the south and west of the country. The capital, Niamey, is located in the southwestern corner of Niger, along the Niger River.

Koure is a rural community located 60 km east of Niamey, the capital of Niger. Koure is best known for its West African giraffes, a subspecies endemic to West Africa.
