Biogradska Gora National Park is a stunning, protected area in Montenegro, located in the mountainous region of the country between the Tara and Lim rivers. Established in 1952, it’s one of the oldest national parks in the Balkans and is famous for its primeval forests, glacial lakes, and rich biodiversity.
Biogradska Gora is home to one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests, a vast, untouched area where trees have grown undisturbed for centuries. Some trees in this forest are over 500 years old and reach impressive heights, making it a paradise for nature lovers and scientists alike. The forest features a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, including beech, fir, and maple, creating a dense and lush canopy.

At the heart of the park lies Biogradsko Lake, a stunning glacial lake that reflects the surrounding mountains and forest in its clear, calm waters. It’s the largest lake in the park and a popular destination for visitors to relax, hike, and enjoy the pristine scenery. The lake offers activities like rowing, fishing, and photography, especially beautiful in the fall when the forest transforms into a colorful display of autumn foliage.

The park’s unique ecosystems support a wide variety of flora and fauna, with over 2000 plant species, hundreds of fungi, and numerous species of birds, mammals, and amphibians. It's known for its large populations of birds, making it ideal for birdwatching. Wildlife includes brown bears, wolves, foxes, deer, and a variety of rare bird species. The park’s ecosystem remains largely intact, offering visitors a chance to witness nature in its most authentic form.
