Calvert Cliffs State Park is a day-trip park featuring sandy beaches, unique fossils, a playground made from recycled tires, a fishing area, freshwater and tidal wetlands, and 13 miles of hiking trails located in Calvert County. | |
| The massive cliffs, which give Calvert Cliffs State Park its name, dominate the Chesapeake Bay coastline for about 24 miles in Calvert County and were formed more than 10 to 20 million years ago when all of Southern Maryland was covered by a shallow, warm sea. As the sea receded, the cliffs were exposed and began to erode. Today, these cliffs reveal the remains of prehistoric species, including sharks, whales, stingrays, and small, airplane-sized seabirds. | |
