Hue Historic Citadel (Kinh thành Huế), located in Hue City, Vietnam, was the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The Imperial City was built in the early 19th century during the reign of Emperor Gia Long and was designed to reflect the unique cultural and architectural traditions of Vietnam.
The Imperial City, also known as the Citadel, is surrounded by walls and a moat and is entered through ten gates. Within the walls are numerous palaces, temples, pavilions, and other buildings that were used for government administration and ceremonies. The Imperial City covers an area of approximately 500 hectares and includes the Forbidden Purple City, which was reserved for the personal use of the emperor and his family.

The Imperial City was heavily damaged during the Vietnam War, but significant restoration work has been undertaken to preserve and restore its buildings and structures. In 1993, the Imperial City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique architecture and historical significance.

Today, the Imperial City is a popular tourist destination and is one of the most important cultural and historical sites in Vietnam. Visitors can explore the palace complex and its many buildings, view exhibitions of royal artifacts and treasures, and learn about the history and culture of Vietnam's Nguyen Dynasty.
