Resavska Cave is one of the most famous and picturesque caves in Serbia. Located near the village of Jelovac, about 20 km from Despotovac in eastern Serbia, this natural wonder attracts visitors with its stunning underground formations and accessible pathways. | |
While the cave has been known to locals for centuries, it was officially explored in 1962 and opened to the public in 1972. The cave is estimated to be around 80 million years old, with its formations (stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstones) dating back about 45 million years. The cave stretches over 4.5 km, but only about 800 meters are accessible for tours. Resavska Cave has three levels, with the middle level open to visitors. The upper and lower levels are reserved for scientific study. The constant temperature inside the cave is around 7°C (45°F), making it a cool retreat, especially during warmer months. |
