| The Christ the Redeemer statue on the small mountain is located at an altitude of 170 meters above sea level. Visitors can see the striking white statue against the blue sky from afar. The Christ the Redeemer statue was built by the Catholic Church in 1974. After a period of suspension, in 1993, construction work such as the staircase and finishing touches were not completed. The statue faces south, overlooking the sea, its face expressing compassion and mercy. The statue is 32 meters high, with arms 18.4 meters long, hands 2.2 meters long, and middle fingers 1 meter long. Around the statue are nine decorative metal rays, and the supporting structure is of medium size. Inside, there's a spiral staircase with 133 steps. Light shining through the windows forms the word "Life" in an East Asian style. Two handrails are designed as safe balconies where visitors can enjoy the breeze and admire the panoramic view of Vung Tau from a height of over 200 meters. The statue of Christ is built on a concrete pedestal with four curved corners, 10 meters high and 12 meters long. The front of the pedestal is decorated with a bas-relief modeled after Leonardo da Vinci's famous "Last Supper," while the back depicts "Christ giving the keys to Peter." Although made of concrete with a stone basin on the outside, the artistic lines are very soft and lively. The harmony between the natural landscape and classical art with the religious identity of the national culture has created the statue of Christ in Tieu Son, Vung Tau, a true religious work of art in the region. Architecturally, this statue of Christ is the tallest in the world, even taller than the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), which was built jointly by the Churches of Brazil and Argentina (26 meters high, 10 meters long) on Tieu Son mountain in Vung Tau. | |
