Torshavn, also known locally as Havn, is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. The city itself had a population of 14,223 in 2024, and the wider metropolitan area had a population of 22,444, including the suburbs of Hoyvík and Argir.
Torshavn is located in the south on the eastern coast of Streymoy Island. To the northwest of the city is Mount Húsareyn, 347 meters high, and to the southwest is Mount Kirkjubøreyn, 350 meters high. These two mountains are separated by the Sandá River.
