Mount Hakodate is a 334-meter-high, tree-covered mountain at the southernmost tip of the peninsula, where much of downtown Hakodate is located. Especially on clear days and nights, the views from the mountain are spectacular and are ranked among the top three most beautiful night views in Japan, along with Mount Inasa in Nagasaki and Mount Rokko in Kobe.
Shiretoko National Park covers most of the Shiretoko Peninsula at the northeastern tip of the island of HokkaidÅ, Japan. Shiretoko is best known as the home of Japan's largest population of brown bears, and for offering views of Kunashiri Island, ownership of which Japan and Russia dispute.
