The west-facing site is open and dry, with exposed bedrock. It is bounded by two small ravines that are branches of Pleasant Grove Creek. The northern ravine is dry and the southern ravine has running water. In the forest stand, red, white, black, and chestnut oaks are common, together with shagbark, pignut, and bitternut hickories.
The Cornell Botanic Gardens is a botanical garden located adjacent to the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, New York. The Botanic Gardens proper consist of 25 acres (10 ha) of botanical gardens and 150 acres (61 ha) of the F. R. Newman Arboretum. The greater Botanic Gardens includes 40 different nature areas around Cornell and Ithaca, covering 4,300 acres (1,700 ha).
Buttermilk Falls State Park is a 811-acre (3.28 km2) state park located southwest of Ithaca, New York. It has a small lake, hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge and rim, picnic areas, and playing fields. The lower portion of the park, which offers an easy view of the namesake Buttermilk Falls – the 165-foot cascade and last of 10 waterfalls along the creek, also has a natural pool and campground.
