It is the second largest island in the region and a popular summer resort. The island has its own language, Faroymal, a dialect of Gutnish. The population was 505 in 2021. | |

The province includes the islands of Fårö and Gotska Sandön in the north, as well as the Karlsö archipelago (Lilla and Stora) in the west. The population is 61,023 in 2024, of which approximately 23,600 live in Visby, the main town. | |
