The Town of South Hero, located in Grand Isle County in northwestern Vermont, lies on the southern half of South Hero Island in Lake Champlain. It is one of four towns (Isle La Motte, Grand Isle, North Hero, and South Hero) comprising Vermont’s “Lake Champlain Islands.” South Hero's population was 1,674 at the 2020 census.
The three-mile Colchester Causeway in Vermont is a former railroad track converted into a stunning pedestrian and bike trail that stretches out to Lake Champlain. Located on the Island Line Trail, it offers 360-degree panoramic views of the water and connects Colchester to South Hero Island. A narrow 200-foot section, or "cut-off," requires a seasonal bike ferry to cross.
Snow Farm Vineyard is where grapes are transformed into wine. Over 11 acres of vineyards are cultivated for harvest each fall. The entire process of grape processing, winemaking, bottling, labeling, and celebration takes place in the West Shore area of South Hero. The tasting room is open to visitors, offering ample space for seating on the covered patio or inside the wine bar.
