Lake Zaysan is a freshwater lake located in Tarbagatay District, East Kazakhstan. It is the largest lake in the region. The lake usually freezes over from early November to the end of April, but it still has a large fish population. The lake lies in a valley surrounded by three mountain ranges: Altai, Tarbagatai, and Kalbinsky, 60 km from China.

Lake Balkhash is a true gem of Kazakhstan, recognized as the largest inland body of water in the country and the second largest inland basin in the world, after the Caspian Sea. This unique lake is distinguished by its striking contrast: the western part is filled with freshwater, while the eastern part is predominantly saltwater with a characteristic sea taste.
