| Established in 1963, the Gulf Specimen Marine Biology Laboratory provides marine organisms to schools and research laboratories. They also study endangered species and conduct research on coastal aquaculture. Today, they are an integral part of numerous research programs throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Gulf Specimen's primary mission is to help people appreciate the diversity of marine life and inspire a desire to protect it. They accomplish this by using touch tanks, visual exhibits, and field trips to provide unique "hands-on" experiences, allowing students to touch, smell, and hear the fascinating and exotic creatures of the Gulf of Mexico, thereby developing awareness and a desire to protect fragile marine life. | |
