Kagoshima is the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. As of July 31, 2024, the city had an estimated population of 583,966 in 285,992 households. The Shiroyama Observatory is famous for its stunning views: the majestic Sakurajima volcano in Kinko Bay and the city of Kagoshima. Its spectacular nighttime scenery is also highly renowned.

The Bansei Tokko Peace Museum is a war museum in Minamisatsuma, Kagoshima Prefecture. Opened in 1993, the museum commemorates 201 pilots from Bansei Air Base who perished in a Kamikaze suicide attack during the final months of the Pacific War. A memorial service is held in front of the museum's monument every April.

Yakushima is one of the subtropical islands of the Ōsumi archipelago, located off the southern coast of Kyushu and part of Kagoshima Prefecture. The island is covered in a vast cedar forest, home to some of Japan's oldest trees. Trees over 1,000 years old are affectionately called yakusugi, with the oldest possibly over 7,000 years old.
