Sopchoppy is a city in Wakulla County, Florida. Located at an elevation of 7.0 meters above sea level, the city sits on the Florida Peninsula in northern Florida, near Ochlockonee River State Park. Its population in 2020 was 426, down from 457 in 2010.
Sopchoppy lies east of the picturesque, meandering Sopchoppy River, one of Florida's blackwater rivers. This pristine, dark river, fed by wild swamps and surrounded by wild rhododendrons, tubelo trees, and ancient cypress trees, once teemed with sturgeon so large they were harvested for caviar. The river is currently under federal consideration for designation as a Wilderness and Scenic Landscape River.
