| The temple is believed to have been built during the reign of the Maratha king Shivaji. Approximately 250 years ago, a merchant named Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan, a devotee of Devi Saptashrungi, established the temple after the goddess appeared to him in a dream and directed him to a mountain in the north-west of Pune. The primary deity is Goddess Chattushringi, also known as Goddess Ambareshwari, who is considered the reigning deity of Pune35. She is also revered as Mahakalee, Mahalakshmee, and Mahasaraswatee. The temple is 90 feet high and 125 feet wide. The temple complex includes shrines dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh, as well as eight miniature idols of Ashtavinayaka located on separate hillocks. To reach the main shrine, devotees must climb more than 200 steps, with seating areas provided for rest. | |
