Emperor Thành Thái, whose full name was Nguyễn Phúc Bửu Lan, was the tenth emperor of the Nguyễn dynasty in Vietnam. He was born on March 14, 1879, and reigned from 1889 to 1907. Emperor Thành Thái ascended the throne at a very young age, only nine years old, after the death of Emperor Đồng Khánh.
Thanh Thai's reign is also notable for his opposition to French colonial rule. He displayed nationalist sentiments and sought to consolidate Vietnam's sovereignty and independence. However, his anti-French stance led to tensions with the colonial authorities, and he was ultimately deposed by the French in 1907.
