Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area, located in the northern county of Yilan, Taiwan, is a stunning mountainous region known for its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and historical significance. It covers about 129 square kilometers (50 square miles) and at the elevation of 1,950 meters (6,398 feet).
The area was transformed into a national forest recreation area in 1983 after the cessation of logging activities that began during the Japanese colonial period.

The region is home to ancient trees, including the national treasure, the Taiwan Beech. The forest features lush moss carpets and a variety of wildlife such as the Taiwan macaque and Mikado Pheasant.

The area's mountains were formed due to tectonic activity between the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates, contributing to its dramatic landscapes.

Bong Bong train is a historic train ride that offers a glimpse into the area's logging past.
