Surat Castle, or Surat Fort, is a 16th-century structure in the city of Surat. The Ahmedabad king Sultan Mahmood-III (1538–1554) ordered its construction to defend the city from the frequent attacks that had devastated it. It is now filled with government offices, but you can go up to the top for a marvelous view of the city and Tapi river.
Surat is a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Located on the banks of the river Tapti near its confluence with the Arabian Sea, it used to be a large seaport. It is now the commercial and economic centre of South Gujarat, and one of the largest urban areas of western India. Its population was 6,936,534 in 2021.
