Orchid Island is a small volcanic island located 64km off the southeast corner of Taiwan, directly east of Kenting. It is a volcanic island of breathtaking natural beauty and is home to the country’s most isolated aboriginal tribe, the Tao, who are famous for their annual Flying Fish Festival. Its population was 5,255 in 2023.
Taitung County is in the southeast of Taiwan, with the Pacific on its eastern border and the Central Mountain Range on the western. It had a population of 211,681 in 2023. It has a beautiful natural landscape, with high mountains, a rift valley, ocean, outlying islands and hot springs, and also has 176 kilometers of coastline; it also includes two outlying islands, Green Island and Lanyu.

East Coast National Scenic Area consists of volcanic rock, classic rock from deep beneath the sea, and shale. The East Coast is the primary homeland of the Amis aboriginal tribe. Lisong Canyon Hot Spring is one of the famous river-based hot springs located in the deep mountain in Taitung. Its water gushes out of the holes on stone slopes and even forms a waterfall of hot spring. The stone slope behind the waterfall is washed over time by hot spring water and now possesses a crystal-like texture.
